Executive Assistant
Jennifer Costen
Jennifer joined the JCSTS Team in 2022. She has 15+ years supporting C-level executives in higher education, non-profits, and technology services. Jennifer is the owner of Costen Virtual Solutions, an online Administrative Service, offering expertise in Project Management, Grant Writing, Event Planning, Catering and Administrative and Operational Management. She loves spending time with her grandson, reading, traveling and being at home.
Strategist & Marketing
Cheryl Scales
As JCSTS' Strategist and Marketing Specialist, Cheryl serves the seminary's mission in the areas of brand activation, social media outreach, grant funding, and trustee cultivation. Her award-winning portfolio of services involve multiple industries and include such companies as Proctor & Gamble and Delta Airlines. Her faith-based leadership extends widely across denominational lines. Her portfolio also includes social justice and equity solutions for education leaders, municipalities, and community organizers.
Curriculum Development
Deb Mullen
Rev. Deborah Flemister Mullen, PhD, joined the JCSTS Executive Leadership Team in July 2020, She serves as Principal Program Associate with primary responsibility for building and strengthening the seminary’s instructional programs and evaluating program effectiveness. She is the former Dean of Faculty and Executive Vice President at Columbia Theological Seminary. Previously, she was the Associate Dean and founding Director of The Center for African American Ministries and Black Church Studies at McCormick Theological Seminary.
Media
Dominick Walters
Dominick is a native of the Bronx, NY. He serves JCSTS as a media specialist and brings an expertise to the seminary that fuses his love for production with his knowledge of multimedia. He is passionate about digital advocacy particularly as it pertains to the digital divide and equitable access to technology. His advocacy work stretches across the fields of religion, tech, science and education.
Financial Services
Keri A. Strother
Keri is a native of Greensboro, Alabama, He brings years of accounting experience via his corporate, nonprofit and education background. Keri has been with JCSTS since October 2019. A graduate of Stillman College, he has a deep appreciation for the value of historically Black educational institutions like JCSTS. Keri has a BA in Accounting and Master’s in Finance. He also is a classically trained concert organist.
Music & Worship Instruction
Ouida Harding
Dr. Ouida Harding joined the JCSTS Team in 2020. She holds a Master of Arts in Church Music (MACM)/Concentration: Music Ministry Leadership from the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) and a Doctorate in Worship Studies/(DWS)/ Concentration: Standards in Music Ministry Leadership from the Robert Webber Institute for Worship Studies. She holds a Baccalaureate in Fine Arts from City College of New York. Known as a gifted pianist and educator, she uses her international platform to teach students, congregations and audiences, the power of unity through music.
Web & Instructional Design
RJ Johns
RJ was raised in Southwest Atlanta and is a lover of all things creative. She thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys building brands in excellence. Her early work with JCSTS was as the seminary's website designer. Soon, it was apparent that her skills extended beyond graphic design and included instructional design as well. She holds a master’s degree in Communication Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design where she honed her talents in design and photography.
Institutional Advancement Officer
Rick Ufford-Chase
Rick serves as Institutional Advancement Officer of JCSTS, with primary responsibility for supporting curriculum development and funds development. He also is the Co-Director of the Center for Jubilee Practice. His extensive service to the church includes twenty years of work with migrants and refugees on the U.S./Mexico border, two years as Moderator of the 216th General Assembly of the PC(USA), and twelve years as the Co-Director (with his wife Kitty) of Stony Point Conference Center. He is the father of three adult children
Media Production & Strategist
Warren Cooper
Based in the Lenape territory known as Philadelphia, PA, Warren brings his considerable experience as a producer, broadcaster, recording artist and activist to JCSTS. He also is the Executive Producer for Music Media Ministry, a full-service broadcast production company. He has toured the world in music ministry, retired from a career in Pennsylvania state politics, and has served the Presbyterian Church USA as a Ruling Elder on the local church, Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly levels.
Program Associate for Formation
Sarah Dunne Pickrell
Sarah joined the JCSTS team in 2022. Based in Kansas City, she is an artist, yoga practitioner, spiritual director and organizer. She is the Director of New Worshiping Communities with Heartland Presbytery and a founding leader and antiracism trainer with The Open Table KC, a PC(USA) 1001 NWC. Sarah’s background is in nonprofit administration, education, outreach and hospitality. In her free time, you'll find her hiking in the woods with her partner, cooking, playing with her dogs or making a mess in her art studio.
